Mohegan Sun Recap (2)

We woke up Saturday …and IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY! We drove over to the casino for breakfast (parking was easy, but finding the parking initially – not so easy.) We ate at Tuscany, a classy joint right in the middle of everything.

It felt and smelt a little bit like Disney World. (You know when you’re waiting on line for Pirates of the Caribbean and you can smell the water?)

My spinach, onion, tomato and goat cheese omlet was only $9! I tried a bloody mary for the first time after breakfast, which was sort of a cold tomato soup with cracked pepper and vodka, for those of you who have never tried one.

After we ate, I had to try the slots again. I was addicted! I was doing pretty well, winning a little here and there, and then… I won $65 on one spin on the Wheel of Fortune slot machines! You would have thought I won $500 because we were so excited.

Here’s me at my winning machine! Since it was pouring outside, we spent the rest of the day hanging around the slots. Disclaimer: I did NOT go to Mohegan Sun to shop, but we found this adorable store called Lalo Treasures. Even though I wasn’t planning on buying myself a birthday present, I managed to find a little somthin’ on sale.

The top piece is a hair clip and then a ring.

For a “snack,” we went to Bobby’s Burger Palace, Bobby Flay’s more casual restaurant at Mohegan Sun.

I had the Griddled Cheese Deluxe with goat cheese, brie and tomato. SO GOOD!

We went back to the hotel to change and when we got back to the casino – it was a different world! Every restaurant and game table was packed. Our plan was to eat at Bobby Flay’s formal restaurant, Bar Americain, but they were booked till 11 PM. As creatures of habit, we ended up back at Margaritaville. This time, we sat on the upper level by the water (which I’m assuming was Mohegan Lake?) and I had a pomegrante margarita and vegetarian faitas.

Long story short, I ended up spending all of my winnings from the previous night and that morning, and much more. Later in the night we went to The Dubliner, a LOUD Irish “pub,” Lucky’s Lounge, a fun place to grab a drink, and then Ultra 88, a night club that charges a $20 cover. I was so surprised to find this crazy dance club hidden down a dark hallway, but the Jersey Shore-style DJ and overpriced drinks were just what I needed. Ears ringing, we ended the night at the Sex in the City slot machines that had been packed all day.

A successful weekend! And though I lost more money than I should have, I didn’t spend as much as I thought I would. You CAN do Mohegan on a buget, people!
